Catering Tips - The Best Shoes for Servers and Waiters

If you're lucky, the events you run are limited to just a few short hours so you and your staff don't have to spend the entire day on your feet but short events don't bring in the money or pay the bills.  Booking back to back events or long-day or late-night events keeps the lights on.  For those types of catering events though, you and your servers need the best shoes.

Do you need to spend hundreds of dollars for luxury shoes?  Not at all.  You just need to find the right style for you.  For restaurant staff and catering employees, there are two things that are important.  The most important is comfort, obviously, since you're on your feet all day.  The second is safety, because when you're in and out of a wet, greasy kitchen environment you don't want to end up face-down on the floor.  Here are some things to look at and consider when shopping for shoes.

Bonding Film Vs Seams - A lot of the products we interact with using bonding film, right down to the shoes we wear.  Some soles are held on primarily by seams, others with bonding film.  A good sturdy bonding film can often hold up longer than traditional seams/stitching when you put shoes through paces every day.

Seam placement - If you have regular discomfort in certain areas of your feet, then get shoes without seams over that spot.  There are a variety of designs with different seam placement.  If you can change up seam location you might find that the pain diminishes

Shape - There are a lot of different shapes to shoes because they serve different purposes.  Running shoes, walking shoes, climbing shoes - you have to get the shape most appropriate to working in a kitchen environment and running shoes are not it.  Focus on those providing the highest quality arch support with some spring in the step to cushion your walking.  Ankle support is crucial as well.

Laces - Most people don't think much of the laces when they're buying shoes but poor quality laces can dramatically alter the performance of a shoe.  Weak laces with loosen and don't hold their knots, causing the shoe to become loose.  This can create friction, lead to blister and discomfort and potentially cause you to turn your ankle.  They can also come untied easily, creating a hazard while working.  Replace the laces in your new shoes with a better quality lace.

Catering Equipment - No-Skid - This is important for any type of restaurant position whether you're the owner, a cook, a busser or a server.  Floors get slippery, people spill drinks, the walk-in cooler gets moist.  You need no-skid no-slip shoes.  Look for this feature first then start picking apart the no-skid shoes to find the best one for you.

You will wind up paying a little more for good quality no-skid shoes but it beats buying black tennis shoes and finding yourself in agony after being on your feet for just a few hours.  You can get around this a little by buying cheaper no-slip shoes and buying some gel or other supportive insert but it's best to pay now for the support instead of buying cheap shoes that you have to replace constantly.
The search for quality catering equipment is finally over. You can finally inject real elegance into your service offering, from the simple elegance of the stainless steel chafing dish to the quality of the ornate dessert stand, CateringEquipment.com has something for every event caterer.
